Developmental Psychology Research with Labvanced

Labvanced is a comprehensive developmental psychology research platform and child-friendly experiment software that supports online and in-lab workflows, longitudinal designs, and robust participant management. Researchers can design and run developmental psychology experiments, manage child participants, and collect high-quality behavioral and cognitive data. With tools like webcam eye tracking, a desktop app, and support for longitudinal studies, Labvanced streamlines developmental psychology research workflows while providing a safe and engaging environment for participants.

Supported Developmental Research Areas

Labvanced supports a wide range of developmental psychology domains, enabling researchers to design experiments across multiple areas of child development:

  • Cognitive Development: memory, attention, problem solving, executive functions
  • Language Acquisition: vocabulary, comprehension, speech perception, bilingual studies
  • Social and Emotional Development: empathy, cooperation, social reasoning, theory of mind
  • Perceptual and Motor Development: visual tracking, fine motor control, coordination
  • Longitudinal and Growth Studies: track developmental trajectories over months or years
  • Behavioral and Experimental Research: reaction times, choice behavior, inhibition, attention

Developmental Task Examples

Explore a collection of example experiments you can try in Labvanced. Each card gives a preview of a child-friendly task designed for developmental psychology research, showing how you can run online or in-lab studies, collect cognitive and behavioral data, and design robust longitudinal experiments.

Preview of the Chatterbox Project task in Labvanced

Chatterbox Project

The Chatterbox project is a reading test for children. It includes a voice recording of the participant while he/she is reading a story. The participant then answers questions about the text they read aloud.

Prosodic Awareness Task

In this Prosodic Awareness task, participants will test their recognition of syllable stress in written words and emotion in spoken sentences. Prosodic awareness is a skill that improves with age and language development.

Preferential Looking Paradigm

This study investigates visual attention in infants using a preferential looking paradigm and can be further used as a template for such research. Participants view either images or videos side-by-side, while gaze patterns, fixation durations and head orientation are recorded, as well as a video recording of the participant. Note: uses infant-friendly calibration.

Preview of the Pediatric Symptom Checklist-17

Pediatric Symptom Checklist-17 (PSC-17)

The Pediatric Symptom Checklist-17 (PSC-17) is a brief screening tool for caregivers to report children’s emotional and behavioural functioning. It identifies concerns across attention, internalising, and externalising problems to support early mental health intervention.
