Labvanced vs Testable
Part of Labvanced's platform comparisons.
Labvanced and Testable are both no-code platforms for behavioral research, and both explicitly serve UX and industry research audiences alongside academic psychology. Labvanced's peer-reviewed webcam eye tracking is central to that difference, alongside native emotion detection, remote heart rate (rPPG), embedded speech-to-text transcription, AI-based translation into 50 languages, and an AI assistant for experiment building, on top of native desktop and mobile apps for offline data collection that Testable's browser-only platform does not offer. Testable bundles participant recruitment directly into the platform through Testable Minds, its built-in panel, a capability Labvanced does not offer natively.

Where Testable Is Strong
Testable's built-in participant recruitment panel, Testable Minds, lets a researcher import a study template and recruit participants without setting up a separate Prolific or MTurk account. Combined with a free Basic plan for researchers with an academic/company email, Testable lets researchers collect data through Testable Minds or in person in the lab at no software cost. A paid upgrade is only required to collect data from participants elsewhere online. Testable's paid tiers are flat annual subscriptions ($299, $699, and $9,995 per year for Plus, Pro, and Department respectively), which gives a lab a predictable yearly cost rather than a per-participant charge.
Testable also explicitly positions itself for UX and industry research alongside academic psychology, and Testable Arena supports multiplayer experiments across any experiment type, not a fixed set of game paradigms. Its library filters for peer-reviewed templates, giving researchers a fast way to find implementations already validated in published research. And Testable documents EU data hosting: core study data is stored in Germany via Hetzner Online GmbH under a signed Data Processing Agreement.
Where Labvanced Differs
Testable has no webcam eye tracking, emotion detection, remote heart rate, or EEG integration of any kind. Labvanced's webcam eye tracking is peer-reviewed against a hardware benchmark, reaching 1.3° center-screen accuracy with a Pearson correlation above 0.9 against the EyeLink 1000, lower for free-viewing and smooth-pursuit tasks (Kaduk et al., 2024, Behavior Research Methods). Facial and eye processing run entirely client-side, so no raw video ever leaves the participant's device.
Labvanced runs emotion detection from the same webcam session, with accuracy above 90% averaged across emotions though it varies between individual emotions. That same session also captures remote heart rate, expected to be within 1 to 3% of actual heart rate, with a comparison study against gold-standard medical devices still ongoing. The desktop app adds EEG and Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) hardware integration for in-lab sessions that combine behavioral and neural measures, a modality Testable does not support in any form.

The two platforms also differ on group studies. Testable Arena supports multiplayer experiments across any experiment type. Labvanced's multi-user infrastructure adds lobby management, role assignment, and group formation on top of its WebSocket-based synchronization, built for research designs that go beyond general-purpose multiplayer.
For UX and web-based research specifically, Labvanced's Web Bridge Chrome extension lets researchers track eye movements, clicks, and scroll behavior directly on a live, external website inside a controlled study session.
Deployment is the other structural difference. Testable runs in the browser only, with no desktop or mobile app. Labvanced runs the same visually built study on web, and on a native desktop app for offline in-lab sessions. Its timing is grounded in peer-reviewed methods for precise JavaScript display timing (Lukács & Gartus, 2022, Behavior Research Methods). A native mobile app extends the same study to offline field collection on iOS and Android.

Choose Which Fits Your Study
If your study consists of standard behavioral tasks, such as questionnaires, cognitive tasks, or reaction time experiments, Testable is a strong choice. For these types of studies, both platforms provide the core functionality needed to run the experiment. If recruiting through Testable Minds or collecting data in person using the free Academic Basic plan meets your needs, switching platforms may provide little additional benefit while adding extra cost and workflow complexity.
Labvanced's advantage becomes clearer once a study needs more than a keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen response. Physiological measurement (webcam eye tracking, emotion detection, remote heart rate), offline or mobile deployment, or a multi-user design with defined roles are all outside Testable's scope. As research requirements move in any of those directions, Labvanced is built to meet them without adding a second tool to the workflow.

Migration Note
Migrating a study from Testable typically involves recreating the experiment in the Labvanced editor. For researchers or labs moving existing paradigms, Labvanced also offers the study building service that can assist with rebuilding experiments.
